The Messthetics is the experimental rock trio from Washington D.C., featuring two ex-Fugazi members and the acclaimed avant-garde guitarist Anthony Pirog. For their spring album release, their third since debuting in 2018, they have teamed up with jazz musician James Brandon Lewis on saxophone. Pitchfork gave the album high praise, scoring it 7.8 out of 10 with the comment, “The punks don’t sound eager to prove their jazz bona fides, and the jazzers don’t seem to view punk with any condescension toward its rudimentary building blocks.”

Fugazi emerged in the wake of the hardcore punk wave in the late 1980s and made a significant impact in the following decade with their releases on the underground label Dischord before disbanding in 2003. Still, nearly two million monthly listeners on the Spotify attest to a loyal and continually growing fanbase.
